Copy & Send: Email Templates for Truth & Reconciliation
It has been 10 years since the Truth & Reconciliation Commission released its 94 Calls to Action. As of 2025, only ~15% are fully complete. Survivors, families, and communities are still waiting.
Sometimes it can feel overwhelming to know where to start when called to action. That’s why we’ve provided a short blog to simplify the process. Taking action doesn’t have to be perfect — it just has to begin.
On Truth & Reconciliation Day (a.k.a., Orange Shirt Day), we invite you to go beyond wearing orange: email your elected leaders and demand action.
Here are ready-to-use templates:
To Your MP (federal)
Subject line: Follow Through on TRC Calls to Action
Dear [MP Name],
As your constituent, I urge you to fully fund Indigenous-led burial site searches (TRC CTA #71–76) and meaningful commemoration (TRC CTA #77–83). Every child matters must mean action, not delay.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
To Your MLA (provincial)
Subject line: Fulfil TRC Calls to Action in Education & Health
Dear [MLA Name],
What is your government doing to ensure curriculum changes (TRC CTA #62–65) and equitable, culturally safe healthcare (TRC CTA #18–24)? Reconciliation requires concrete provincial action, not just words.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
To Your City Councillor (municipal)
Subject line: Reconciliation Requires Local Action
Dear [Councillor Name],
What is our city doing to support memorials, cultural spaces, and archives for Survivors and families? Symbols matter, but action matters more.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
